what is the best digital camera? Reviews?

October 28, 2009 - 6:14 am 4 Comments

I’ve been looking for digital cameras. I think im more into cannon brand so if you have things on that it would be better.

If you want a compact, and you’re willing to spend about $400, take a look at the Canon PowerShot G10.

If you want a DSLR, I would recommend the Canon Rebel XS (about $400-$500; not including lenses).

What are some of the smallest digital cameras out there right now?

October 28, 2009 - 6:14 am 4 Comments

I resent camera phones for their horrible quality and lack of features. What are some of the smallest digital cameras that I can bring with me everywhere? I am especially looking for one that can take good movies also, but that is not a necesity.

If you value and quality and features, you can’t be looking for a tiny "toy" camera because they won’t do a whole lot better than a camera phone.

You need to decide your priorities – tiny size or quality and usefulness….. never the twain shall meet.

What kind of camera is good for taking pictures of cats with their eyes open?

October 28, 2009 - 6:14 am 6 Comments

I have purchased two digital cameras and neither of them have allowed me to take a picture with my cat’s eyes open. They are always closed.

I had an old Sony DSC S50 many years ago and it allowed me to take semi-okay cat pictures, but since it was taken from me, I’ve found no other camera (especially a new one.. that was a cam from like 2000) that can.

If there are any cat lovers out there who take good pictures of their cats with a digital camera, I’d love to hear tips/tricks/what brand of camera they use.

If you want good results every time, get a digital SLR.

Failing that, try to defeat a few things on your cat that might be causing distractions. Turn of the red-eye reduction so the repeating flash won’t make them close their eyes. Turn off the focus-aid lamp, if possible, and use manual or preset focus. If your cat is ten feet away, for instance, point your camera at something ELSE that is ten feet away and hold the shutter button half-way down as you turn towards your cat, recompose and wait for the right moment to shoot.

We have taken all kinds of pictures of cats with all kinds of cameras without much trouble.

Digital Camera Question: How do I know if the camera I am to purchase will download to my computer?

October 28, 2009 - 6:14 am 5 Comments

I am thinking of an entry-level Samsung ES-15 and don’t know how to know if I can download pics to my computer. What do I look for in any digital camera? Thanks.

Regarding if the camera can download to your computer, the answer will always be yes. All digital cameras were meant to transfer files to your computer (via memory card or USB cable).

My recommendation in what to look for in a camera now days:

1. Make sure the camera has at least 8 to 10 megapixels. If more than that, then it’s even better.

2. Be sure that the processing time after you take a picture is 3 seconds or less before you are able to take another picture right away.

3. Optical zoom is more important than Digital Zoom. Make sure to have at least 10x optical zoom.

4. Make sure that the movie mode takes High Definition movies. Tell the salesman that you want either 720p or 1080p resolution movies.

5. Check that the battery life lasts up to 400 photos. Anything less and you will need to have to buy a second battery.

Hope these 5 things help you out.
