Make a pinhole diameter the same size as the aperture on a camera lens?

November 27, 2009 - 7:10 pm 2 Comments

I’m trying to do a project comparing the resolution a digital pinhole to that of a digital camera lens.
Is it possible to make the pinhole sizes match the aperture sizes on the lens? Would the pinhole camera be less likely to work because it does not have the "optimum pinhole diameter"?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
can they be proportional?

At some point you are going to produce holes that "let in the daylight".

If your pinhole is the exact same size as a lens aperture then what’s the difference as far as diffraction goes?

Yes, there is a optimum pinhole size for a given focal length and film format. I will try to find the chart if I can.

Traditional Vs. Digital Camera lenses are they interchangeable?

November 27, 2009 - 7:10 pm 5 Comments

I am a little behind the times and am still using a 35mm camera. anyway I’m thinking of going digital but does anyone know if traditional lenses will fit a digital camera?

Canon EOS film lenses (EF) work on all digital SLRs. Canon digital only lenses (EF-S) won’t fit on film, early digital (D10, D20 – different than 20D), or current full size sensor cameras.

Nikon: all the mounts are exactly the same, but compatibility varies.
Nikon F lenses – not to be used without then modification. Then OK for pro models (manual only)
Nikon AI & AI-S: OK for pro models (manual only)
Nikon AF, AF-D, & AF-G: OK for all models, but won’t AF on low-end SLRs (D40, 40x, 60, 3000, and 5000)
Nikon AF-DX: APS-C sensor cameras only, BUT will fit all cameras (with vignetting). Nikon has the option of setting full size sensor SLRs to only utilize the portion of the sensor that corresponds to the APS-C portion (reduced resolution, of course + mag factor of 1.5x)
Nikon AF-SW: will fit on all, but only focus on later film bodies (D90 & later) as well as all digital)
Nikon Pronea lenses: Totally worthless for any non-APS camera.
There are a few exceptions based on lenses, but they are specialized enough you’ll probably never deal with them.

Minolta AF: Now works on Sony. Some lenses have issues.

Pentax: All lenses can fit, but low-end DSLRs may have problems with non-AF lenses.

Olympus: They have an adapter to put old OM lenses on their DSLRs.
The new Pen E-P1 uses a new mount, but there are (or are expected in the near future) adapters to allow you to use almost any other brand’s lenses but in manual focus & manual settings only.

Can anyone advised what’s the best digital slr camera should i choose for a beginner like me?

I’m starting to love photography. I have a Fuji S7000 and a Canon ixus70. Been taking photos for relatives and friends in weddings, birthday parties and families outdoor activities such as BBQ parties for the last 2 years. Thought of getting myself a digital slr camera to explore more on best photography.

If you aren’t invested in lenses for an SLR then I suggest looking seriously at the Sony A100 and Pentax K100D Super.

The A100 is 10mp, has Super Anti-Shake in the camera body, has dust removal for the sensor and accepts every Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985. It also accepts many of the Maxxum accessories.

The K100D Super is 6.1mp, has Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body, has dust removal for the sensor, and you can use every K-mount lens made since 1975. Of course the older lenses will be manual focus but they will have the benefit of IS.

Since the introduction of the Sony A700 and Pentax K10D the A100 & K100D Super should be dropping in price. However, careful shopping might find the K10D and A700 available for a reasonable price.

I’ve been reading a lot of mixed reviews for the Nikon p80. Is it a good camera?

I can get a good deal from Dell on it. I’m upgrading from a 5.1 Cybershot. I wanted to get a Sony, but none of them have viewfinders on them, just an LCD.

Here is a comparison of the latest and hotest super zoom cameras: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/q109superzoomgroup/

The Canon SX10 and Panasonic FZ28 came out at the top, while the P80 was a little below average.

What is better digital cameras or pocket camcorders?

November 27, 2009 - 7:10 pm 3 Comments

I am looking to buy a new digital camera or pocket camcorder to take videos of bands play at concerts(loud!). I have heard that pocket camcorders are not as good as digital cameras with zoom and quality of video. Which is better and what are some good pocket camcorders and digital cameras to look into purchasing?

I would suggest Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD with HD movie shooting capability plus HDMI output.

Nikon D3000 Digital SLR Camera

November 26, 2009 - 10:37 pm 12 Comments

The D3000 is a 10.2 megapixel DX format DSLR camera announced by Nikon on 30 July 2009. It is supposed to replace the D60 and D40 as Nikon’s entry level DSLR. It features a 3.0-inch 230,000-dot resolution LCD monitor, CCD sensor with ISO 100 – 1600 (3200 with Boost) and 3D tracking Multi-CAM1000 11-point AF system which makes it quite similar to the Nikon D200 in these main parts.
The redevelopment of the city’s Old Port took place in the early 90s, under the direction of architects Aurèle Cardinal and Peter Rose.[1]
Today, the riverfront welcomes over seven million visitors per year. The historical Old Port offers Montrealers and visitors alike access to a wide variety of activities, including the Montréal Science Centre, with an IMAX Theatre, and the Montreal Clock Tower. It offers riverfront access for walking, cycling, roller-blading, quadricycle, pedalo and Segway rentals. It is also located at the eastern end of the Lachine Canal, which has itself been extensively refurbished as a popular destination for cycling, roller-blading and pleasure boating.
The Old Port of Montreal changed its name to The Quays of the Old Port of Montreal in 2005. Every 2 years the Cirque de Soleil launches a new show from the Jacques Cartier Quay.[citation needed]
Shipping has been moved further east to the present Port of Montreal site, leaving the riverside area of Old Port adjacent to Old Montreal as a recreational and historical area.
