reviews on: CANON EOS 1000D Digital SLR Camera with Canon 18-55 mm EF-S Zoom Lens – 10.1 mp. Quick Please :-)?

February 28, 2010 - 1:06 am 3 Comments

I’m looking to get the CANON EOS 1000D Digital SLR Camera with Canon 18-55 mm EF-S Zoom Lens – 10.1 mp, I only have £400 to spend and this looks like the best camera. Could you review if you have this camera.
Thanks

Here’s a review that hasn’t been given. I own a 1000D and find it a versatile, easy to use, very well built camera that yields superb photos.

I use three lenses with mine, the kit at 18-55, a Tamron 18-200 and a Canon 75-300.

Further review is here. Read my notes please because not all of these were taken with my Canon.
Be aware I’m having excellent luck with night / time exposures, day time colors are brilliant and the camera is very easy and quick to operate – but, you’ve got to read the book and keep it handy for little questions that always seem to come up.

The first 3 shots I took with my Fuji 9000. Good Luck

What is that attachment on the end of camera lenses?

February 23, 2010 - 7:22 pm 3 Comments

It looks like 4 black flaps that are hinged. I see them on telephoto lenses.
What are they for?

A petal style lens hood. There are also plain, round hoods. Both are designed to keep light from coming into the lens from the side. The petal hoods are generally lens specific.

You may see actual hinged flaps on a larger, studio flash units, or on theater style continuous lighting. These systems are called barn doors, and are used to keep the light inside a certain area.

How many cameras are desired when filming a conversation between two actors?

February 23, 2010 - 7:21 pm 3 Comments

Also, when filming a fight scene, I know I need to make quick cuts to create a sense of action. However, when actually filming such a scene, do I use one camera and film the scene from different angles or use two cameras and do it all in one…then tweak it in Final Cut Pro?

It depends on what you have access to. If you have multiple cameras, people to operate them, then by all means go for that route.

Most film productions especially with a smaller budget, will use one camera, and film the scene from different angles. Hopefully your actors will be good enough to reproduce the same results each time they shoot from a different angle.
