How do you remove sand in your camera lens?

March 9, 2011 - 5:16 am 1 Comment

I was in the sand dune and when I was about to look at the photos we took at the sand dune, suddenly, my camera won’t open normally, and showed a blank screen. That time, I looked at the lens, it was blocked with bits of sand.

How do you remove it???

My camera is an Olympus 2006 FE-100 model.

You can’t remove it. Call Olympus and see if they can give you an estimate of what it would cost to have it cleaned. It won’t be cheap. Next time, don’t take a camera anywhere near sand or the beach.

How can i get water from the inside of my camera lens out?

December 20, 2010 - 8:09 pm No Comments

I had my camera in my pocket when i fell down into a huge puddle…my entire shorts were soaking wet…and my camera was in my shorts pocket!

Now, my camera will turn on and everything and focus fine…but all of the pictures are foggy. the entire inside of the lens is foggy. How can i get the water out?

oooh that is a harsh problem

What I would do is buy some uncooked raw rice if you don’t have any and bury it in there overnight. If that does not work, the only thing you can do is send it in.

I had my iPod fall in a puddle when I was leaving a friend’s house. It stayed there over night, and he found it the next day when he went to check mail. he put it in rice for me and it worked flawlessly.

How can I tell if my camera lens threads are stripped?

December 18, 2010 - 9:37 pm 2 Comments

I am not sure if its my adapter or my camera threads, I am using a baby death lens and it keeps falling off… please help.

Visual inspection. You can easily see the threads with your eye but to see better, use a magnifying lens. Make sure you have the correct thread size on both sides. Being off even for just 1mm will not work.

Could someone tell me how to fix an old camera lens?

Could someone tell me how to fix an old camera lens?
I got an Asanuma 35mm-105mm lens from my grandpa. The lens can focus, but the zoom is stuck at 35mm and won’t budge. I think there is rust or dry gunk of some sort that is jamming the zoom and I don’t know what would be best to get it out. Please help me, I would really like to make good use of this lens without having to take it to a repair shop.

Rick Olsen’s website has more DIY home repairs of lenses and other camera gear than I’ve ever seen. I didn’t see anything on your specific lens but you may have a look at his site to get an idea of what’s in store for you. I can tell you that every lens I’ve worked on never made it back together.

How to prevent camera lens from fogging up after snow?

December 15, 2010 - 12:34 am 5 Comments

Just a quick Q, I brought my small compact camera in (Sony CyberShot) from outside to photograph the snow and shadows but when I brought it in, I thought that the lens might fog up so I put it in my porch, which I thought might help the transition. Right now, the lens is fogged up. Its only a small amount so there shouldn’t be damage. What should I do now, and what can I do next time to prevent it from fogging up? Thanks in advance!

Warm the camera …. Fogging is cased by water vapour condensing on a colder surface. If you warm that surface to, or beyond the ambient temperature – No fogging …. Simples!

How do you fix Nikon Coolpix camera lens after dropping it?

December 9, 2010 - 9:40 am 4 Comments

I was taking pictures outside, and my camera fell on the cement, and the lens are stuck. How do you fix it, because whenever I turn it on it says lens error, Im really scared! I bought it at best buy, so do u think I should ask them if they could fix it, or can I fix it myself?

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it’s sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera’s been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended …

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they’re worth a try.
