@cobick1 I think i …
@cobick1 I think i may have figured out a reason on why it crashes when in remote areas. Just a theory.
I think that this “GPS” chip actually works off triangulating its position off a few cell towers. I noticed when i am in poor cell service that it freezes, as soon as i got into good service it works great. Samsung is probably using this to get a Lat and Long stamped to the Meta data instead of having a true gps antenna.

“tomynator” … …
“tomynator” … even before i fully read the camera’s manual i had a good understanding on how both the camera and the gps works as i have several of both.
here’s a more useful comment: next time you find yourself at an elevation of 8k MSL or higher (ideally in a moving car) try taking a picture with the GPS-on and see what happens. I had with me a data logger at the time and a cellphone with gps/google maps and the other devices had no issue, it was only the CL65.

it does (in a way) …
it does (in a way) beat the purpose since i got this camera so i don’t have to geotag my pics manually carrying around my handheld gps, and now i end up doing it anyway since i don’t know if the camera’s built in gps will decide that it is too high for it to work !! booo …

same here, tried …
same here, tried resetting, various settings – nothing.
i have now emailed SAMSUNG support two times .. want to hear their response?
“use a new battery pack and try again”
that was ridiculous ..
as for other comments: yes the GPS WORKS in general, but at high speeds or high elevations – it freezes the camera up.
so if you have a CL65 and it works, great – take it to a mountain some time over 8k and try again and see what happens.

@APrintezis Yes …
@APrintezis Yes this same thing is happening to me. I am on my second camera now. I thought it was a technical glitch on my 1st one. I returned it for a second, and i just realize that it does the screen freeze just as it is about to get a gps lock.
I get get a good gps fix in urban areas, but as soon as i take it to the outdoors the GPS is useless. Kind of defeats the purpose of why i picked up this camera in the 1st place. I tried to reset the gps many times over, with various settings

Great review!
The things I love the most about this camera are the integrated GPS and the zoom capacity in video mode.
Could you tell us whether it has the feature of focusing on a particular spot pointed out with a tap on the touch screen?

PROBLEM WITH GPS:
Hi everyone, i am constantly experiencing a problem with the GPS in this camera.
Every time i am on high elevations (on mountains for example) at 5-6 thousand ft or higher, just when the GPS is about to get a satellite fix and turn green, the camera totally freezes and the only way to reset or turn it off it to take the battery out !!
This is very frustrating – since the main reason i went with this camera was the GPS.
Anyone else has the same problems??

It’s not the GPS …
It’s not the GPS you think it is. It’s just geo tagging. Shows on your computer with a globe and places a pin where you took the photos

It finds it through …
It finds it through your computer. You plug it in and you get to look at a globe with pins stuck on where your photos were taken. kinda, neat, kinda not. three levels: city, state, country

My point being that …
My point being that all of the basic also ran features such as zoom etc are not unique to this camera. What makes this camera interesting is it’s GPS geotagging especially for travellers and connectivity with Google Earth. This is what (in my opinion) could have been very simply touch on rather than simply ignored.

@Loadabullshit This was a review, not help and support, not a tech-demo, a review, the point is to communicate an opinion on the worth of the item in question, not to blandly demonstrate every single feature.

Waited 10mins to hear something about the GPS function and after so much waffle..nothing. It is one of the 1st digital compacts with geotagging and you totally ignored it!! Keen to know how long it takes for GPS to find position? A demo on how you upload image would have been great.
