I am very interested in photography, and up until now I have been using a traditional digital camera. I don’t know a whole lot about vintage or classic cameras, so what are the cameras that every photographer needs for their collection? Oh and I have a polaroid too.

The amount of cameras and lenses that I have had come and go from my collection over the years would easily reach three figures. Some I kept for just a few days before selling on, some a few years, others I still have and use now. I have whittled it down to about eight or nine cameras and quite a lot of lenses.

It really depends on how much money you have to spend, what type of photography you intend to do and how much space you have to store them! )

If you ask me what cameras/lenses you should consider buying then I will tell you to buy ones that can be used a modern day DSLR either with or without an adapter. I currently shoot digitally with a Ricoh GR Digital as a compact and a Canon 20D as my more serious tool. The beauty of Canon is that it allows me to use several older manual focus lens systems with my camera body and achieve infinity focus. Therefore I look for cameras and lenses that are also compatible with my DSLR body.

I currently own a few SLR bodies but the film ones which I currently use are a Sigma Mark 1 (M42 mount) and Contax RTS (C/Y mount.) I have quite a large number of lenses for these cameras, all of which I can use with my Canon. After using many, many SLR bodies, these two cameras are now my ‘final two’ which I am so happy with, I don’t ever see myself selling them. If you see them for a good price (and the Sigma can be very cheap) then don’t hesitate to buy them.

As for compacts? Well I have always liked the Olympus MJU II (my carry everywhere camera), Olympus XA and XA2, Olympus Trip 35 is an essential in anyone’s collection, and Leica Mini II.

I think that owning and using a TLR is a great photographic experience. I loved mine but sold it after it got little use. You should certainly use both 35mm and 120 film cameras to gain experience in MF shooting. Be sure to experiment and use many cameras which are fully manual, no electronics, manual everything! It will help you with your photographic technique and skills.

There are no cameras that everybody should have in their collection, it is all down to personal taste and the other reasons I listed above. Good luck with the collecting! Be warned though… Gear Acquisition Syndrome can be very expensive!

And by this I mean specifications. Megapixels and etc. I plan on going to look at some cameras tomorrow and I need to know what makes a good camera…or if you could name a couple of camera’s that are good for video recording that aren’t too expensive.

HD video cameras with 3-CCD’s are the best.

In the HD video mode, the camera uses 1 mp. In the Full HD mode, the camera uses 2 mp, so as you can see, having a single sensor of 12 mp has NO effect on the quality of the video

Look for pro-sumer video cameras which have three sensors in them. Panasonic, JVC, Canon and Sony have such video cameras

Which work better? I’ve heard some cameras like the the Nitemax IR camera or the IGEN monocular which uses digital tech is actually comparable to or better than the expensive 3rd generation tubes. But some people say the cameras can’t see that far. Which is better any why?

I’m looking for a camera that takes pictures like professional cameras. Of course, getting the best camera would be out of my price range. so im looking for a camera in a reasonable price which similar to an SLR. I’ve got an eye on the some Panasonic Lumix also, so If you could, could you also tell me which of the camera’s in Panasoc Lumix is the best and is what I am looking for? I have three camcorders for making videos, they’re all Sony. I’m thinking about buying a Panasonic one and I plan on using all those cameras to make one video. Each camera will just be used for a different camera angle. So I want to know if the resolutions of each angle will be different because I have three Sonys and I will have one Panasonic. I really don’t think it will be different but I just want to make sure. Also what if I will get a Cannon camera to make videos, then will the resolutions of my scenes be different?

I am looking on URBAN OUTFITTERS website and I am interested in what the lomograpgy cameras do ! Do they control lighting?I searched it under google images and pictures came up with 2 things _the fisheye effect and also colors like blues and pinks! so what is lomograpgy? And what camera is the best for taking it?

They take technically bad (as compared to pin sharp, well exposed, hi-res modern digital cameras) but emotive images. The cameras come in normal, fisheye, coloured flashes, four image captures in one film frame, panoramic, etc…

You factor in the blurry lens, colour cast, etc to create the emotion.

Is the footage kept forever? Also if you’ve had an office job, were cameras watching you?

Office computers are usually networked to a server where all information is stored until someone deletes it. Most company’s review any and everything on the computers, so if you are doing something that is not to the company policy they can find out. It is company property so its legal. If its not company work, don’t do anything on a company computer. even if its to do a quick check of email or even messing around on word or excel. that computer is just like having a person write down, take pictures, and go over every thing you’ve done during the time.

How do serveillance cameras at banks work overnight on the outside of the building? My first question is, do they have people watching 24 hours or is it a recording. Second questions is If it is a rercording would they only review if somthing big happend? Dont get the wrong idea, im not trying to rob a bank lol. Im asking this because somthing stupid happend outside of a bank overnight and i wanna know if its possible that someone caught it on camera.

They only record then if something happens they will review it if nothing happens they will record over it.

I know that these cameras are usually mounted on the dash, but can they be moved? Do some traffic officers have cameras mounted on the rear end of their cars?
