Mini DV Spy Camera AEE MD80 Review

March 25, 2010 - 7:33 am 25 Comments

A review of a cheap Mini DV Spy Micro SD Cam. Got mine from Ebay – but also available from Maplin in the UK (as well as loads of other retailers online). Apologies for the length of the video.
PLEASE NOTE – THE JERKYNESS IS ACTUALLY DOWN TO THE CHEAPO MEMORY CARD USED, NOT THE CAMERA.

Duration : 0:6:7

    Hey does anyone who has this camera have the setup file/driver for this thing? I bought one after watching a few of these videos and just received it the other day.. seems to work fine I charged it and it turns on but when I downloaded the program that came on the cd with it and plug either the memory card or the camera into my computer, it shows up as a bunch of gibberish symbols and files that cant be opened. If someone has this camera and it works for them any help is appreciated!

    @htksr I think the Muvi is a copy of this one – this review video was filmed in July 2009. Don’t worry so much – these cameras hardly cost anything any more – if you want one, just buy it they only cost about £10 now.

    Sorry – I can’t remember – I got it in June last year. I checked ebay to see if the seller that I believe I bought it from sold them any more and he didn’t.

    Hi,
    Can you please tell me the name of the supplier you got yours from, or a link ? I’ve seen some here on youtube that just come in a styrofoam package where as yours came in the white package with content pictures on it, also the fact that yours came with the metal body instead of plastic. Thanks for the review and If you could send me a link to where you got it. I’m assuming ebay but there are so many on there I want to make sure to get one like yours. Thanks

    @malavivius
    I’m pretty sure it just keeps going until the battery is flat or the memory runs out. The absence of sound certainly doesn’t have any effect.

    When it’s set to voice activation how long does it record for? Does it record untill you stop it or for a time limit? Or untill the sound that activated it is gone?

    Many thanks – hopefully this will answer everyone’s questions. My camera is the original model (not the copy) that doesn’t display the time anyway – so this has never been a problem for me – but it does seem to be a problem for many others.

    The time/date stamp …
    The time/date stamp was a problem on some of the later models of this camera that were copies of the original one. Mine doesn’t show the time and date so I can’t comment – but I believe that someone has posted a video response and also given instructions of how to fix this very problem in the comments to this video. Have a look at some of the older comments and you should find it.

    Thanks for the video – ordered one of these based quite a lot on your review, and I have been very pleased. No stutter or jerky motion with the 4GB SD card I’m using.

    Only question I have is whether you know how to remove/disable the automatic date stamp on recordings? Thanks!
