Show me some examples of identical pictures taken with an inexpensive and an expensive lens. I want to see what the big deal is and why people spend $600+ on lenses for $800 cameras.
keerok I’ve never seen a $10 lens. It’s hard to find a filter for $10. Obviously you can’t prove a difference that justifies $600. You just feel artsy by spending more.
I would doubt that anyone here would be able to show you such examples unless it’s just a fluke.
The main difference is in the quality of the glass. The better the glass the fewer the aberrations, the better the focus, the sharper the image produced.
Also many lenses come with extras like IS (image stabilization) in Canon’s case, VR (vibration reduction) for Nikon. Some lenses also have a few more features making them more expensive.
Mostly however, the more you have to pay the better the quality of your photos.
Look at this shot. This I shot with my Rebel XS and my Canon 28-200 lens. Look closely at his eyes and you’ll where optics really matter – in the sharpness of the photo.

I live in Ottawa,Ontario, Canada and i’ve been looking for a cheaper place to buy camera lenses. Specifically the Canon 100mm macro lens. I dont mind buying online, and i actually wouldn’t even mind going to the states to get it, as long as it’s cheaper.
Any suggestions?

Knoll Light Factory allows you to create lights and lens flares in an unlimited number of ways. You can create hundreds of variations from uber-realistic flares based on real camera lenses to totally other worldly fantasy light effects.
This video compares it to the built-in Lens Flare filter in Photoshop. There’s not really much of a comparison since you only get 4 presets with the built-in filter and the only adjustment you can make is to the Brightness. But watch this short video and see for yourself! Go to www.digitalanarchy.com for more info.
