What would be a best film SLR camera for a student of photography?

February 17, 2010 - 7:35 pm 12 Comments

studying photography and I want to buy a film camera SLR, do you know wich kind of camera can I buy. I’m getting started in all of this and in the course it dosen’t really specify wich camera or what type it only wants a film SLR.

get a used canon, nikon or minolta that has autofocus… for a Canon look for any autofocus… for a nikon a N90s… for a Minolta one of the Maxxums… the reason for that suggestion is that in the future if you stick with photography there is no point in having an old film camera that uses lenses that wont work with the digital SLR you will likely buy in the future. Canon and Nikon will be around in the future and more than likely Sony (which uses Minolta lenses) will as well. I don’t see any point in getting a strictly manual camera without autofocus just so you can out grow it and turn it and the lenses that camer with it into paperweights. When looking for those cameras just look for an autofocus that is in decent shape and works… likely any will do even lower end ones…. I’m familiar with Nikon so I can only speak of them from experience and if you get a N90s or even an older N90 either will do anything you might need for a film class and will even give you the option of DOF preview…. I’m sure some Canon and Minolta do but am not familiar enough with the models that would…. I would also say don’t get anything better than a N90x because if you did you would be investing more money in a camera that you wont likely use that much (eventually you’ll go digital).

Don’t listen to those trashing autofocus cameras… the fact is most older used autofocus camera allow complete manual operation including manual focusing…

SLR Camera Strobes!

February 17, 2010 - 6:21 am 1 Comment

Old school with Dave, Sam and Me! Manage to get in but it was pitch black so we used our SLR Camera flashes to illuminate the place. The flashes of the cameras gave a trippy strobe effect. The true strobe effect isn’t seen in this video due to the frame rate of the video because the srobing of the flashes was so rapid.

What is the best SLR camera for a newbie?

February 15, 2010 - 8:08 pm 6 Comments

I am planning on getting the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi.I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this camera or if there is a better slr camera out there? I mainly want something that is easy to navigate because its my first time using a high quality camera.

Nikon D40, hands down.

It is very lightweight and easy to get used to, the images are great, too.

I definitely do not prefer cannons, especially for beginners.

What is the difference between a SLR camera and a regular 35mm camera??

February 13, 2010 - 11:25 pm 5 Comments

Can’t understand the difference between a regular 35mm and a SLR Camera?? Which will take better pic’s. I am looking for either one that is best for my wedding that is coming up less than a month.

an SLR will definatly take much better pictures then a 35mm but are often more expensive. though if you are in the market for a new camera i would suggest a digital SLR. SLR stands for single lens refraction. it allows for less distortion in the picture. also you have much more control over the camera. you can adjust the focus, light amount and many other things manually. recently digital cameras have dropped significatly in price and you can get a good 6mp and above digital slr for around 5 or 6 hundred. film cameras are moving closer and closer to obsolete. it would be a waste to buy one.
