I really want it to have awesome quality I already have a standard camera (that like takes pictures and everything, but has a video setting) Do you think a regular camera will be good? Or do you think I should get an actual video camera? If so, do you have any good recommendations? Perferbly something cheap. If you were me, what would you do?

just a standard camera will be fine , make you footage as still as possible , and take your time editing

I plan on getting an ultra flip video camera to post funny videos and a bunch of other stuff on youtube as a hobby. Does the ultra HD flip video camera work with windows LIVE movie maker? I would prefer to use this editing software because it’s completely free. If it doesn’t work, can you recommend an easy and free video editing software that works with the ultra HD flip video camera? Thank you if you answered this question.

No, the video file out of flip ultra camera cannot be read by windows live movie maker directly. So you may try to change the file extension to wmv, avi, mpg with a professional flip converting program. Recommend you one I am using. Hope it helps u.

Canon XH-A1S 3CCD HDV High Definition Professional Camcorder feels like a terrific tool that can do whatever you need and the picture quality–even on Auto–is beautiful. Having the two XLR terminals will make a big difference, too. The versatility and design really meets such a variety of needs–way too much machine/expense for “home video” (it’s not the kind of camera people forget is pointing at them), but great if you want to shoot training films, web videos, independent films.

I need to make a music video for this freestyle thing I’m doing and I want it to look quite professional. Is it possible to purchase a video camera that people use to make real music videos. I don’t want the camera to shake while I’m filming. I want it to be completely still and smooth. Any suggestions?

Hi Sarah:

"Real" music videos are produced by full crews of professional video/film and sound people with thousands of dollars of equipment (and years of experience in the various crafts involved).

This isn’t to say that you (like other amateurs) can’t produce a good video, just don’t get your hopes up expecting star-quality on your first try.

As far as camera and the "no shake" thing, a tripod is used to hold the camera steady, and some tripods (the good ones) cost more than the camera that’s sitting on it. If you don’t need fancy camera "moves" (pans & tilts), just a good low-cost tripod will hold a camera still.

Fancy camera moves can also involve things like a camera "dolly" (rolling platform on special wheels or tracks) or a "crane" (just what it sounds like).

A professional video camera can cost $5000 or $50,000. A knowledgeable video camera operator can get a "pro" look out of cheaper equipment (just like a good carpenter can make beautiful furniture with basic hand tools). You might put a notice up at a local college (or Art Institute) that has a film or video department, and check to see if your local cable company has a Community Access program for citizens to use. Either place will have eager students or volunteers willing to work on a project such as yours.

My other suggestion would be to make a trip to your library and read a book or two on video production and/or film-making techniques.

hope this helps,
–Dennis C.

I’m in a rock band, and we would like to record us playing, so we can put it on youtube. We are looking for a VIDEO camera that can shoot good videos, but we want better sound quality. Budget is $200 or less. This, or a camera that has a "USB IN" thing so that i can plug a rockband mic into it

To get the very best sound quality for a music video, you should ALWAYS record the video and the music separately. Then merge and synchronize the music using a good audio/video editor and sequencer like Pro Tools.

But, if you insist on recording them together, you need to have a digital video camcorder that has an external microphone input so that you can plug in your own studio quality microphone. Better still is to have more than one microphone running through a mic preamp that feeds into the camcorder. The music should also be balanced correctly by running the entire band through a mixer and then recording the audio off of the mixer in stereo to the camcorder.

If your music is too loud, it’s going to sound bad anyway. You can turn down the music and it not only sounds better, the people listening to won’t have to shout at each other to comment on it and the musicians won’t go deaf at an early age from damaging their ears with a constant barrage of excessive decibels. http://www.abelard.org/hear/hear.php#loud-music
