What kind of digital SLR camera is best for beginners?

October 30, 2009 - 8:38 am 7 Comments

I’ve taken a recent interest in photography – I’ve always taken pictures with a normal digital point and shoot camera, but I really really want a beginner SLR camera, which can take really nice pictures but is reasonably priced. I don’t know ANYTHING about SLR cameras, but the ones I’ve looked at so far are the Nikon D40, and the Canon Rebel, and the Pentax K110…. any advice?

The Nikon D40 is probably the best beginner SLR, especially for the price.

Stepping up from there, consider the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT, the Nikon D40x, and the Canon EOS Rebel XTi.

The Pentax K100D super is also a good choice, but I think the Nikon is better built.

Whatever you do, DON’T rush into buying a cheap one just because it’s all you can afford. I’ve been looking for a while and still haven’t committed to anything there are heaps out there. With SLR you also have to consider additional lenses.

    Good Luck!

I use Canons. I like this brand because they are aggressive with their research and are first when it comes to new technology. They also have great lens’s. You can either buy used or start with a basic digital body and then upgrade later. But do invest in a good lens as that lens will be good for better cameras to come. You can buy them used as well.

I buy most of my equipment from

The very best bargain budget DSLR is the Olympus Evolt E-510 10-megapixel camera with image stabilization, active view LCD, automatic internal lense cleaner and comes with a two-lense start kit which consists of a normal lense and telephone [up to 150 mm] via amazon.com for around $665 [without tax and free shipping]. It generates 10-bit 11 meg RAW image files and is very light to handle.

    Good luck!
